Guthrie is a town of about twelve thousand that runs a wedding market far larger than its size, and the reason is architectural. It was the territorial capital from 1890 and Oklahoma's first state capital from 1907 until the government moved to Oklahoma City in 1910 — and because the money left early, the Victorian downtown was never demolished and rebuilt.
The result is a National Historic Landmark district with brick-paved streets, period storefronts and more than a dozen bed-and-breakfasts in Victorian-era buildings. That last part is what makes it a destination rather than just a pretty backdrop: out-of-town guests can stay inside the district and walk to everything.
